How does music improve our wellbeing?
We love music here at The People Shed – good for the soul and productivity!
But it isn’t just a way of entertaining ourselves: it can encourage creativity and help us become more productive within our working environment. Listening to music can also be therapeutic, relieving feelings of stress so you can concentrate better.
But there are some secrets to choosing the right music to improve focus;
🎵 Listen to music between tasks instead of while you’re working to have a greater increase in productivity – according to a study from the psychology of music.
🎵 Music with lyrics can cause distraction and decrease productivity – try instrumental instead.
🎵 Work it out – stuck? take a break & listen to music you love, at whatever volume you like, to help free your mind, increase joy & think of new ideas.
🎵 Volume! playing music quietly can increase focus and playing it just loud enough to drown out background noise can help stop you getting side tracked with other distractions.
🎵 Music not helping? The sound of silence can also boost productivity when faced with trickier matters. Working with others? listening to a shared radio playing music you dislike all day isn’t going to increase your joy or focus. Communicate & agree on the type and frequency of music played.
🎵 Working from home? This is a great opportunity to explore the music that works for you!
